Midwest Camino de Santiago

We will start with Mass in a new day-chapel at St Cyril and Methodius then walk, pray, and sing along approximately five miles of forest preserve to arrive at St James Catholic Church, ending with prayer of thanksgiving, a b-y-o picnic in a historic cemetery (containing remains of some who were alive when Washington was president!), and a short presentation. The first and last church have long history. St James at Sag Bridge is the oldest Catholic Church in use in Illinois- with rumors that Fr Marquette stopped nearby to pray Mass while resting from his explorations of the New World. There will be much to be shared via the experience of a walking pilgrimage including stories about St James, about prayer, Catholic notions about the sacredness of the deceased, the history of Illinois, etc!
