About the Event
Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleums, located in Hillside, Illinois, is notable among Catholic cemeteries if for no other reason than its stature as the largest Catholic mausoleum in the world, with some 33,000 crypts, 64 columbarium niches, 217 stained glass windows, 48 varieties of marble, exotic hardwoods, and ecclesiastical statuary and artwork from an international constellation of notable artisans and craftspeople, arrayed over three floors (yes! there are elevators). Along the way, we will explore the interplay of symbol and significance, architecture and sacred arts, and theology and tomb.
As the month of November is the traditional time of the year in the Catholic community for the remembrance of those who have died, one fittingly visits consecrated places of final repose such as Queen of Heaven.
And so, we invite you to join us for a tour of one of the finest examples of these reverent places, surrounded by the symbols and images which point the way to eternal life.
