Several South Side and south suburban Catholic parishes will consolidate this summer, the Archdiocese of Chicago announced, as part of the ongoing Renew My Church initiative.
Preservation Chicago’s annual list of endangered building included Roman Catholic churches throughout the city, notably Saint George Church in East Side and Saint Bride Church in South Shore, both of which closed last year. Preservation Chicago wants a city ordinance overturned that prevents religious structures from receiving landmark protection without the consent of the owners of the buildings — in this case, the Archdiocese.
